Time Catches Up to Even the Best AC System
As a rule, the average air conditioning system operates safely and efficiently for about 10 years. After that, it's generally outdated.
For example, a decade ago the average AC system had a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 8, while today federal mandates require that all new systems have a minimum SEER rating of 13, and the new average in our area is a SEER of 16!
On top of that, if your 10-year-old system has dirty or damaged heat transfer surfaces, it'll be operating at 50% less efficiency and have a SEER around 6.
Today, just about 100% of the air conditioning systems we replace contain the R-22 refrigerant that is currently being phased out. Consequently, the price to charge an old system is tripling every few months, and we now verify that your existing evaporator and condenser are compatible with the new environmentally friendly refrigerant.
Targeted AC System Replacement and Upgrade
Before we upgrade or replace your air conditioning system, we conduct our Installed-Right℠ System Survey to ensure we're properly addressing your situation and requirements.
- Building use versus special heating and air conditioning needs
- including rooms used as office space, conference rooms, production, and manufacturing or assembly. We also check to see if there exists unnecessary heating and air conditioning of closed-off rooms or if there are unoccupied periods where temperature reset makes sense
- Comfort requirements versus stale air problems
- targeting specific areas that are too hot or too cold, have system noise-level issues, or are too humid (muggy) or too dry (e.g. static electricity, dry throat, skin)
- Health and safety requirements versus indoor air quality
- covering respiratory and/or humidity control and employee safety concerns working in or around systems
- Property requirements versus your goals
- especially if you're planning building renovations or additions to your facility
- Financial requirements versus the importance of saving money - including energy and operating costs, and/or working with a contractor who can protect you from risk and liability, or your wish to explore financing options
